Reishi (Asian Red Reishi species complex)
Scientific Name: Ganoderma multipileum
Reishi, revered in traditional medicine as the “mushroom of immortality,” forms striking reddish-brown, lacquered fruiting bodies with a woody texture. It’s not eaten for flavor but extracted for its triterpenes and beta-glucans, valued for immune support and adaptogenic properties.
Substrate: Sterilized hardwood sawdust blocks, sometimes supplemented with bran or soybean hulls
Colonization Temp: 75–82°F
Fruiting Temp: 70–80°F
Fruiting Humidity: 85–95%
Light: Moderate to bright indirect light (stimulates antler or conk formation)
FAE: Low to moderate; restricted airflow encourages tall antler growth, while higher FAE forms traditional conks
Notes: Requires long grow cycles (60–120 days); can be fruited in jars for antler forms or blocks for shelf conks.
Cultivation Difficulty: Intermediate to Advanced
